1 in 5 at the Risk of Kidney Disease, Says a Chennai Based Survey

A survey data released by the Directorate of Public Health reported elevated levels of creatinine, albumin, or blood in the urine as a risk factor for kidney disease in every one out of five individuals. The blood sample collected from 4,741 adults showed that 455 i.e., 9.5% had an elevated level of creatinine, were as 5.8% (276) and 7.7% (367) has albumin and RBC in urine respectively. The overall number was tallied up to 934 individuals i.e., 19.7% with the mentioned risk factors. 

Dr. TS Selvavinayagam stated that people with similar conditions cannot be labeled as chronic kidney disease patients however, they will be followed for an extended period of three months. If the repeat test showed similar values after three months, their cases will be confirmed as chronic kidney disease. He also added that as of now, they have been referred to a government hospital for a complete evaluation.
